Religion is one of the ‘basic causes’ of violations of women’s rights – Jimmy Carter

I found this interesting video by Jimmy Carter on the impact of religion and tradition on the lives of women and girls around the world. Turns out that he’s so upset, that has left the Southern Babptist Church of this, after 60 years of being a member. And I commend him for it.

However… I couldn’t help but think to myself how terrible it is that as a species, we are still bogged down by religion.

Shouldn’t we have evolved out of violence, hatred and bigotry by now? Can’t we just skip all this, develop a sustainable source of energy, wear those gay silver skin-tight space suits and explore Space? Honestly, the iPhone can only hold my attention for so much longer.
